Catalog - book it!
Notorious Press books have only been sold by direct sale at events for the first year of operation. Why? Because the use of PoD printing technology (Print on Demand) sometimes results in production errors which require personal scrutiny of each copy before sale. As we continue to try out the results of various printing companies in the PoD realm, we will soon be able to settle on one printer to assure customers quality products on each order.
Notorious Press started by soliciting books from two solid, veteran authors to help assure quality debuts, and to lay the groundwork for future releases. These two titles had quite limited print runs and circulation, as they were part of the “learning curve” for the publisher. Production flaws in each book were such that they have received very limited release. Re-issues are slated for 2008 for both titles with improved production values.
First up is Soul Taster - Four Dark Tales, a quartet of “Dark Tales” by Ken Rand. Horror stories with more than a touch of fantasy and sci-fi. Three of these originally appeared in respected genre fiction magazines, and one makes a print debut here. Watch for more new contribution from Ken, the most experienced “new author” you’ll ever read! (And Ken also did the intro for NP’s first “Dime Novel” revival The Steam Man.)
Anne Wingate’s original novella Weaving Murder was the first fiction specifically commissioned for Notorious Press. (Yes, we do pay authors!) Blending elements of the mystery who-dunnit with a mystical adventure tale, Weaving Murder may be the only melding of Mystery, Mayan history & and Mormon folklore in captivity. Anne is another veteran author, best known for her 20+ novels, including more than a dozen under her Lee Martin pseudonym featuring Deb Ralston, a character partially drawn from Anne’s own background in law enforcement.
